New ASP Program Solves Problem of Managing Overwhelming Volume Of Resumes From Online Recruiting
Vision2Hire Electronically Shortlists Candidates
VANCOUVER (November 9, 2000) - While the proliferation of job boards and online recruiting has introduced a world-wide talent pool to companies, it has also created an administrative quagmire in weeding through the deluge of job applications. But Vancouver-based Spintopia.com has come up with an ASP solution with its new flagship product Vision2Hire, which has the capability of sorting through applications and creating a short list of qualified candidates.
"Whether you're a large corporation or a small company, you have to hire people," said John Boddie, Chief Executive Officer of Spintopia.com. "Unlike job boards that are employee driven, Vision2Hire focuses on the hiring process from the company's perspective. What makes Vision2Hire different is that it is web-based, meaning there is no installation required. All you need is access to the Internet."
Boddie added, "It's very easy to use and very easy to learn. This is important because people don't have time to waste learning how to use a program. At $750 (CDN) per license per year, it's the most cost-effective fully-functional tool available on the market for managing the recruiting process."
Vision2Hire offers human resource professionals and small business owners a hiring solution that reduces their paperwork and administration costs, while more effectively growing and managing their resume database. As a web-hosted or application service provider (ASP)-based product, Vision2Hire enables companies to create their own online corporate Hiring Center web page. From there, they can create job postings and accept applications, pre-screen applicants, sort applicant data and maintain a detailed database for future hires. The program also automatically generates replies to applicants. But Vision2Hire's biggest feature is its ability to short list qualified candidates.
The program generates the short list based on customized needs established for each individual job. Because the program is customizable, a company designs a list of pre-qualifying questions - the same ones they would normally ask during an initial phone interview - that a potential employee would answer online before submitting a resume. Vision2Hire software then ranks the applicants based on their responses and submits a short list of top candidates to the hiring manager.
While Vision2Hire was officially launched today, the product is already in use by several major companies, which have worked with Vision2Hire in refining the program's functionality.
"We consider our clients partners because they've been invaluable in the development process," said Randy Guy, Spintopia.com's Vice-President of Sales. "The look, feel and functionality of Vision2Hire was in essence created for recruiters by recruiters. We are going to market with a proven solution to an important business challenge faced by virtually all companies."
Current users of Vision2Hire include Intrawest Corporation, which owns Whistler/Blackcomb and Panorama in BC, Blue Mountain in Ontario, Tremblant in Quebec and six other resorts throughout the US; Ipsos-Reid, a leading public opinion and market research company; BCGas, the provincial gas utility; and Vancouver's Westin Grand Hotel.
"It is a great management tool," said Chris Wrazej, Director of Recruitment for Intrawest, which has been using Vision2Hire for its corporate hiring needs for almost 6 months. "It saves time and ultimately money. We have hiring needs across the continent and it has allowed us to decentralize the hiring process. It also brings Intrawest people into the loop who couldn't participate before in the recruiting process. By implementing Vision2Hire, we've been able to empower individual business units to manage their hiring. They can now concentrate on the actual hire."
Ipsos-Reid, which recently started using Vision2Hire to manage job applications across its entire operation throughout North America, is counting on Vision2Hire to filter through applications for specific-skilled jobs.
"Vision2Hire will help filter the volume of incoming applications from across North America," said Kathy Enros, Human Resources Development Manager, Ipsos-Reid . "In the past, if I received an application for a posting in New York, I would have to short list the candidates, e-mail the top contenders to the hiring manager, or fax hard copies of resumes. Now, the hiring manager can have direct access to the top contenders for their posting based on how they responded to the customized questions."
The fact that Vision2Hire is an ASP solution is another advantage, according to users. Because everything resides on Vision2Hire's secure server, there is no software to install or maintain and upgrades can be made seamlessly and rapidly based on user feedback.
"That is a key aspect of our product," said Guy. "We want to continually be responsive to the needs of our customers. As recruiting needs continue to evolve, Vision2Hire will evolve just as quickly. Every user always has access to the most current version of the product. That's the advantage of an ASP."
To use the product, all a company needs is access to the Internet and a user license, which costs $750 CDN per user per year.
